Editorial photography is very rewarding and I love to do it when I'm able. Often scheduling and compensation are prohibitive. Nevertheless, I enjoy being part of the story telling that is editorial photography. For me, editorial photography is environmental portraiture. I love meeting the subject in thier element and/or doing what they do and creating images that are natural yet flattering. I use minmal lighting and look to create depth, dimension, and mood. Most of all I want to put the subject in the best light possible and help tell their story. I stay booked in advance much of the time which most often precludes the local work I did starting out as a photographer. Local magazines rarely have lead time. It still works out that I can shoot publications a few times a year. It is my experience as an editorial photographer that helps me create photographic assetts for companies. Often called "forced candids" using a companie's employees to create "custom stock photography" is the same skill set as editorial photography which is all environmental portraiture to me.
