Branding Photography
Branding Photography and Editorial Photography have a lot in common. Much of the time we’re looking to place the subject in an environment that gives the context in their chosen profession. Other times we’re looking to stylize the photo with a bit of color grading, perhaps an extremely shallow depth of field, or a simple composite (green screen photography) that lends a context to what the subject does for a living.
Editorial photography is much the same. Editorial often requires some forethought and often needs to be down quickly. Over the years I’ve learned to scout quick, identify set ups, find or set up lighting that flatters, and work with my subject quickly and confidently taking up a minimum of their time.
Social media photography is the same as branding and editorial. A photographer is trying to tell someone’s story in images. Whether you’re trying to market yourself to a future partner, a future employer, or an publisher looking to tell someone’s story. It’s all environmental portraiture for the most part. Branding photography, I believe, benefits by some studio work. The studio environment is great for dialing in light, relaxing without spectators, and doing the occasional composite photography (aka green screen photography).
For Social Media, we might meet at Ponce City Market and look for set ups with natural light, move to the Beltline, visit a nearby park, take shots walking on the street. We would also be sure to get a few tighter shots of your face. If you are looking to set up an on-line dating profile, or need branding photography to drip out on social media to promote a product or draw attention to an event you are involved in.
Another favorite local is Midtown which is a target rich environment for natural light headshots, social media photography, and general portraiture photography.
